One Woman’s Struggle to Defy All Odds to Not Only Survive, but Live!

This is Sheree Psaila’s extraordinary story and how she fought against all odds to give birth to her beautiful baby boy at the age of 22.

A feeling as precious as motherhood has Sheree over joyed, she can’t help but feel that while motherhood is tough on everyone, it comes at a special cost to her.

She misses even the very intimate moments of her life with her son. A gesture as simple as holding her new born to soothe his tears away seems impossible to her. One she yearns for dearly.

This is so because Sheree Psaila was born with no muscle tissues in her arms and legs. A rare medical condition known as ‘rthrogryposis multiplex congenita’.

Right from the moment she was born, Sheree has been a fighter. While doctors give her only a year to live, she braved 20 surgeries to miraculously outlive the timeline she was granted.

With the surgeries being partial failures, the doctors confined her to a lifetime in a wheelchair. Once again, Sheree refused to accept her fate. Her resilience helped her take her first steps at the age of 5. She was determined to live a full life, move past every obstacle life and the society put in her way and so she did.

Where once her parents were advised to enroll her in a special needs schools, Sheree went ahead to be a student at Tafe.

While studying there, she met with her now husband, and proud father to their son, Chris. Chris, too, is a fighter and despite having his spine affected by a hereditary condition, faces every challenge that life throws at him.

A Match Made in Hell

It was a match made completely in hell. The hell was a Nazi concentration camp called Czestochowa. Both of them had virtually grown up in concentration camps. The first time he saw her was in a concentration camp. He was a skeleton of a man, not really interested in women. But he saw her eyes, and they were smiling. It was love at first sight. He went up to her and they talked. Before going back to his barracks, he kissed her on the cheek.

This is the story of Sigi and Hanaka Siegreich. Hanaka recalled her first kiss and cupped her cheek. It was the same way she had cupped her cheek when Sigi had kissed her for the first time. This happened New Year’s Eve 1944, 18 days before the camp was liberated by the Red Army.

The people in the camp were terrible. Living in a harsh concentration camp had left them as inhumane and brash. Sigi was gentle. Hanaka recalls him to be a kind person in those difficult days.

This is not one of those love stories were guy meets girl and eternal love happens. Sigi was a worker in a Nazi munitions factory. He intentionally sabotaged the factory line, and made bullets that were too small for the german guns. Soon he received word that the Gestapo were looking for him and hid. Only Hanaka knew he was hiding in the nearby abandoned construction site.

Hanaka also braved the situation. She smuggled him bread and a hand knitted blanket to keep warm in -15 degrees temperatures. She visited him every night.

One night she visited him again. She walked up to him with arms wide open and told him that they had been freed. They got married the next day. The year after she gave birthj to her first of two daughters, Evelyn.

Today, Sigi is 93 and Hanaka is 91. They have been happily married for 71 years. They have big family consisting of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The couple already have their gravestones prepared with a befitting inscription.

“We are inviting the souls of our exterminated family to rest in our grave.”

This story tells us a lot about life and love. But the lesson we need to take from this story is that the relationships formed in the hardest of times can last forever.

New Poll Finds That We’re All Racist

We asked millennials questions to find out if they’d hypothetically take a million dollars, even if that meant that a random child would die.

Over 5,000 millennials across the country voted on the polls, with one catch. Half of the users got a poll that said “child” while the other half got a poll with only one simple addition —“African child”.

Surprisingly, 27% of students would take the money and kill the kid.

Shockingly, 37% would take the money if the child were African.

Yep, you read that right. Respondents were 10% more likely to kill the child if the wording of the question read, “African child.”

This poll suggests that college student hold an unconscious racist bias—whether they know it or not.
